Eight qualified. Four were picked. Here's the whole squad and how each one got there.

Sky Sports confirms the two qualification routes, with Hull and Henseleit through the LET list and the next six available players via the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings. Golf Channel reports the picks were announced on the Monday, a day after eight players earned their spots at the conclusion of the AIG Women's Open.

Woad, López Ramírez, Nadaud and Rhodes are the four rookies, per Golf Monthly.

How Henseleit got in on the last hole

A birdie at the 72nd at Royal Lytham & St Annes, and a playoff loss that was worth more than a win to somebody else.

Sky Sports reports Henseleit forced a playoff with a final-hole birdie at the AIG Women's Open, losing to eventual winner Shiho Kuwaki. Golf News Net notes that runner-up finish leapfrogged her past Chiara Tamburlini for the final automatic spot on the LET points list.

Today's Golfer puts the margin at a fraction. Its account describes Henseleit consoling herself with an automatic Solheim Cup place after the playoff defeat.

The qualification rules are stricter than most people assume. Today's Golfer lists them: you must be a Ladies European Tour member, a European national, and have played at least eight ranking events in the qualifying period.

So the German who lost a major playoff got a team spot. The Swiss player who'd held that spot going into the week lost it while playing her own tournament. That's a brutal system and it's the fairest one available.

The four picks, and what each one is for

Nordqvist took one veteran and three debutants. That ratio tells you her thinking.

Leona Maguire was the highest-ranked European in the Rolex Rankings not to qualify automatically, per Sky Sports, with three LPGA top-10s this season. She'll play a fourth consecutive Solheim Cup, and Golf News Net records 8.5 points from 12 career matches, including an unbeaten debut at Inverness in 2021.

Julia López Ramírez brings length. Golf Monthly notes the former world No. 1 amateur currently ranks second in driving distance on the LPGA Tour, with Sky Sports adding five LPGA top-25 finishes in 2026.

Nastasia Nadaud is 21 and an LPGA rookie, joining Boutier as the second French player. She told reporters she wouldn't have believed six months ago that she'd be on this team.

Mimi Rhodes won three Ladies European Tour titles in 2025 and took Rookie of the Year. Golf Monthly points out she holed the crucial half point for GB&I at Sunningdale in the 2024 Curtis Cup, which is the sort of detail captains actually weigh.

Who missed out, and by how little

Here's the loop from the top. Golf Channel names the highest-ranked players left off: Dewi Weber at world No. 87, Madelene Sagström at 88, Ingrid Lindblad at 91 and Helen Briem at 94.

Seven ranking places separate the first name on that list from the last.

Weber is Dutch. This Solheim Cup is being played in the Netherlands, at Bernardus Golf in Cromvoirt, per Wikipedia's entry. A home player, ranked one spot above the rest of the near-misses, watching from outside the ropes.

Nobody has published Nordqvist's reasoning on that, and I'm not going to guess at it. What I'll say is that captains who pick for sentiment usually regret it, and Nordqvist picked the driving-distance leader and the three-time LET winner instead. That's a form call, not a passport call.

Sagström and Lindblad would have made a fifth and sixth Swede available to a Swedish captain. She took neither.

What Europe is actually trying to do here

Wikipedia records the 2026 edition as the 20th Solheim Cup, played September 7 to 13 at Bernardus Golf, with Nordqvist and Angela Stanford as captains. Sky Sports gives the competition dates as September 11 to 13.

Today's Golfer supplies the home record. In the nine editions held in Europe, the home side has won five and lost three, with the 2023 match at Finca Cortesin the first Solheim Cup ever to finish tied.

The Americans won the last one, 15.5-12.5 in Virginia in 2024, per Sky Sports.

Nordqvist herself has flagged the pairings question, describing it publicly as a puzzle and saying aggressive rookies can make an impression. With four debutants in a 12-player team, she'll need at least two of them producing points from the opening session.

Four things being said about this team that don't hold up

• "Nordqvist gambled on rookies." She had eight past Solheim Cup players qualify automatically, per Sky Sports. The rookies fill four slots, one of them Lottie Woad, who Sky Sports lists as world No. 5. That's not a gamble on inexperience, it's a team with a strong core.
• "Maguire was a sentimental pick." She was the highest-ranked European not to qualify automatically and has 8.5 points from 12 career matches. On both form and record she was the obvious selection.
• "Europe is the underdog at home." The home side has won five of nine European editions per Today's Golfer, and the last European loss on home soil predates the 2023 tie at Finca Cortesin.
• "The Solheim Cup is September 7 to 13." Wikipedia gives that as the full event week. Sky Sports lists competition from September 11 to 13. Both are right, and they measure different things.
