Bang collapsed on 1 August while competing at the KLPGA Tour's International Qualifying Tournament in Thailand and was transported to Synphaet Ramintra Hospital in Bangkok, where she underwent emergency brain surgery following a brain haemorrhage. She was placed on life support in intensive care while her family arranged medical repatriation to Australia. She passed away at 7:20 a.m. local time, twelve days after collapsing.
Born in South Korea and representing Australia, Bang built a distinguished amateur record that included winning the Queensland Amateur title. She secured status on the WPGA Tour of Australasia through Qualifying School in November and held membership with the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association.
In February, in just her fifth start as a touring professional, Bang won the Ford Women's NSW Open Regional Qualifying Event at Moss Vale. She closed the tournament with a course-record 65 to win by five strokes, earning the affectionate moniker "Rookie Bang" from fellow competitors.
The WPGA Tour of Australasia issued a statement expressing profound sadness across the Australian golf community, noting that Bang was an exceptional young talent who made an indelible mark during her time on tour, with thoughts and sympathies extended to her family and friends.
A fundraising effort established by her cousins during her hospitalization confirmed her passing, remembering her passion, dedicated work ethic, and vibrant personality. The memorial fund has raised more than A$50,000.
At 18 years old and nine months into her professional journey, Bang had already claimed a professional victory and set a competitive course record. Condolences are extended to her family, friends, and the broader golfing communities in Australia and South Korea.
