James Madison's men's golf program dropped its 2026-27 schedule on Friday, and it's a slate that mixes familiar stops with a couple of genuine debuts. Ten tournaments in total, four before Christmas, six after. The Dukes are coming off a fifth-place finish at the 2026 Sun Belt Championship, and they'll open the new campaign back in Phoenix for the Bomb Darts Birds Collegiate on September 7-8.

Two new venues close out the fall
Once those two are done, JMU heads into uncharted territory. The Testudo Cup in Ijamsville, Maryland runs October 5-6, and it's a first-time appearance for the program. Same story two weeks later at the Qubein Cup in Greensboro, North Carolina, October 19-20, another tournament JMU has never played before. Two brand new stops back to back isn't nothing. It says something about a program willing to test itself against fields it hasn't seen.
Spring takes the Dukes to Mexico, then straight into the grind
After the winter break, the calendar shifts hard. First up is the Compadres Collegiate in Cancún, running February 7-9, easily the most unusual location on this year's slate. From there it's back stateside to Southern Pines, North Carolina for the Babygrande Donald Ross Collegiate, March 8-10.
The spring run doesn't let up. JMU heads to Auburn, Alabama for the Tiger Invitational on March 15-16, then to Midlothian, Virginia for the Giles-Spratley Collegiate, hosted by Richmond, April 5-6. The regular season wraps at the Everett Buick GMC Classic in Little Rock, Arkansas, April 12-13, a venue the Dukes have competed at before.
Who's actually teeing it up
Four players return from last season, and the headline name is Michael Hake, who posted a 72.42 stroke average with six top-25 finishes in 2025-26. That's a legitimate anchor for a program looking to build past a fifth-place league finish.
Joining him are four incoming freshmen: Blake Hartman out of Dublin, Ohio, Henry Holland from Charlotte, North Carolina, Charles McPherson from Durham, North Carolina, and Finn Watson from Arlington, Virginia. Four new faces is a decent chunk of any roster, and how quickly they adjust to college golf will shape how far this team can actually go.
The number that matters most
All of this builds toward late April, when the 2027 Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf Championship lands at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Mississippi, April 26-29. JMU's fifth-place finish at last year's championship tied their best result since joining the conference back in 2022-23. That's the bar. Beat it, and this new-look roster with its two debut tournaments and four freshmen will have made real progress. Fall short, and questions will follow about whether the schedule change actually helped.
